Give your business a competitive advantage with the new 4.0 software
The 5000 CP Release 4.0 software works with both the new HX Controller and the previous CS Controller, adding several new capabilities. The HX Controller carries Mitel’s attractive style and is designed to cost-effectively add native support for digital telephones, while still maintaining the well proven built-in IP capability. The resulting hybrid capabilities provide a versatile, cost-effective solution for small and medium businesses.
HX Controller
The HX Controller is the new hardware platform for the 5000 CP. It combines Mitel’s attractive style with the ability to support digital telephones natively in a form factor optimized for shelf-top, rack-mount and wall-mount.

New Device Support – Mitel Line Interface Module
Release 4.0 introduces support for the Line Interface Module on the 5224/5324/5330/5340/5360 IP Phones. The unique optional module provides a separate connection to an analog line. The patented Line Interface Module enhances Mitel options for remote workers and extends Mitel’s resiliency strategy for IP communications from the core of the network to the desktop.
UC Express Softphone
Originally introduced on the 5000 CP Release 3.2, the UC Express product suite addresses the needs of the market by offering a light-weight, cost-effective, server-less solution that seamlessly combines telephony with integration to Microsoft Outlook® and Windows desktop search, providing the user with a range of intelligent call handling facilities and productivity enhancements. The 5000 CP Release 4.0 extends the functionality of UC Express to mobile and remote workers through the use of a server-less SIP softphone. Each UC Express softphone requires a license (54004264), as well as a 5000 CP Category F Phone license.
The UC Express desk phone product (without the softphone capability) is now available for the 5000 CP at no charge! Simply order a 50-pack UC Express desk phone license (51015443).
Mitel 5610 DECT Handset and Mitel IP DECT Stand
The 5610 DECT Handset and IP DECT Stand are now supported on Release 4.0 software. Please refer to Product Bulletin PA20090503 for more information on the 5610 DECT Handset and the IP DECT Stand.
Support for additional SIP devices will follow and be driven through the same interop process for all Mitel products, i.e., the SIP Centre of Excellence.
Feature Enhancements for Release 4.0
System Administration & Diagnostics
System Administration & Diagnostics is an exciting new PC-based tool that provides rich task-oriented diagnostics in an attractive graphical user interface for technicians. It provides easy access to commonly needed diagnostics, as well as a single access point for all the administration tools available for the 5000 CP.
Figure 7- 5000 CP System Administration & Diagnostics

System Administration & Diagnostics replaces Session Manager, but the Database Programming utility (also known as DB Studio) remains the primary tool for configuration tasks. Once System Administration & Diagnostics is installed on a PC, Session Manager is no longer available. However, System Administration & Diagnostics is backwards compatible for computers that perform maintenance on pre-Release 4.0 5000 CP systems. System Administration & Diagnostics is included with the 5000 CP at no charge and installed with the normal Database Programming installation.
Configuration Assistant
The Configuration Assistant provides a voice-guided Telephone User Interface (TUI) for performing common end-user configuration activities inside or outside the facility. This is a more usable alternative to remote programming through DISA. The Configuration Assistant allows the user to configure:
* Forwarding
* Do-Not-Disturb On/Off
* Dynamic Extension Express
o
+ On/Off
+ Mobile phone number
* Night mode (if an administrator)
Configurable Labels for Self-labeling Phones
Release 4.0 includes the ability to leverage the self-labeling capabilities of the Mitel 5320/5330/5340/5360 IP Phones by allowing system-wide customization of the label displayed on the phone:
* Individual trunks can now be named to show a meaningful label like “Johns Line” instead of the trunk’s extension number
* Feature labels can now be customized on a system-wide basis, e.g., a customer can choose to display “Record” instead of “Rec-A-Call”
Installation Improvement for IP Phones
Release 4.0 includes a time-saving improvement for deploying IP phones in a customer environment. IP phones can be associated with an extension at their final location, using an “activation” PIN instead of manually entering the IP phone’s MAC address. This feature is available with the 5300 Series IP Phones.
Canadian French Language Support
The 5000 CP now supports Canadian French as one of its language choices, in preparation for the product’s introduction into the Canadian market. Canadian French support includes phone displays and audio prompts (Mitel Basic Voice Mail 5000, Configuration Assistant, etc). The system administrator assigns a primary and secondary language to each phone, and the end user can toggle between them using a feature code.
