As it has been 4 years since it was first announced and 4 years to go until it is finally implemented, we thought it was a good time to give you another ISDN switch off update as a reminder for you to make sure you’re prepared.

Essential Information About the ISDN Switch Off

What is Going to Change?

Although you can still purchase ISDN lines up until September 2023, BT has started to phase out both ISDN and PSTN since 2020, so businesses will no longer be able to acquire these services.

There will also be a forced migration period between April and December 2025. Public Switched Telephone Networks (PTSN) consist of telephone lines, Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) and other hardware used to activate traditional analogue telephones.

As it may not just be your traditional phone system that is using these lines, you need to remember to check other systems too and make sure you are prepared for the switch off for those too:

  • Portable Chip & PIN Machines
  • Emergency Phones in Lifts
  • ADSL and FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) Broadband Connections
  • Any Alarms on Analogue PTSN lines

What Do You Need to Do?

If you haven’t already planned to make the switch, the time is now. If you are continuing to use ISDN technology, you may notice technical support start to decrease. Along with parts increasingly becoming unavailable, any faults will not be able to be fixed and you will experience unwanted downtime.

By switching to a cloud-based phone system, you will be able to choose the best system for your business requirements. You can tailor the technology to fit your specifications in order to ensure you get the most productivity and flexibility out of it. Use this time to find the perfect solution for you and reap the benefits before the switch off.
