2023 written in a sprinkler firework

2023 is here and it’s an exciting year for the digital and communication technology world. Last year, we saw further development of Unified Communications, faster and more reliable network speeds, and significant growth of IoT. This year, be prepared to see even more advancements and identify how you can take advantage of the communication technology updates we’ve got to look forward to.

New Communication Technology to Look Out For in 2023

Significant Advances in Unified Communications

Unified Communications (UC) platforms are already well-known for their multiple integration options with useful business products. From CRMs to cloud-based sharing systems, marketing applications to accounting software, there is a multitude of third-party tools available to use through UC platforms. With more industries requiring more Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS), more integrations are required. So, we will start to see even more advancements such as linking services like WhatsApp and Microsoft Teams.

Artificial Intelligence Continues to Expand Its Capabilities

Unified Communications have also seen advancements in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to process language and provide insights to enhance customer experience. Furthermore, AI will be seen within customer service, security solutions, and completing administration tasks. Chatbots are already helping a number of businesses with queries, bookings and other customer services – this is only set to grow.

With AI’s ability to identify and understand algorithms, it enables a proactive approach against potential threats and cyber attacks, so it will be able to protect your network and keep your data safe. Plus, artificial intelligence is able to undertake simple tasks such as writing and sending meeting minutes, following up on action items and assign tasks to individuals. The possibilities continue to grow and we should make the most out of this technology as it’s not going away any time soon.

Hologram Calling is the New Video Calling

Proto is an established company specialising in hologram technology. Their products are already available to the public and other businesses that require remote working communication technology. Although holograms are not a brand-new technology, they are seeing more and more use throughout the business world as a communication tool. By taking a step into the digital world and being more present in a completely different location, hologram technology could be the new first choice for conference calls and video meetings.

BT Stop Sell is September 2023 – Are You Ready?

The ISDN switch off is still on track for 2025, but this year will see BT stopping the sale of traditional phone lines in all exchange areas. No copper-based product will be available to order which means if you are still using traditional copper lines for your business phone system, any repairs or replacements will be limited. With only 2 years to go until the complete shut off, it’s the best idea to switch to IP-based telephony now rather than the last minute. If you need help with this, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team.

Apple Products Move to USB-C to Meet European Standards

Even though this is just a prediction for 2023, Apple will have to make the change from the Lightning port to a USB-C port by December 2024 if they would like to continue selling in Europe. This is when the European Law comes into effect; the European parliament believe that the lightning port inconveniences consumers and contributes to e-waste. Switching to USB-C will enable users to re-use chargers, therefore saving money and the environment. Will we see it on the next iPhone release?
