

Ocean Telecom’s own Giles Ecclestone travelled to Sri Lanka this month to represent England in the over 50’s Cricket World Cup. 14 nations competed during the three-week tournament.

Giles Ecclestone:
Giles, a former professional cricketer, played for Essex and latterly in South Africa. After his professional career, he continued to play for his local club of Saffron Walden, and the MCC. Once Giles turned 50, he found a new cricketing challenge, playing for both Essex and England Seniors. Giles has enjoyed considerable success. He’s scored more than 3000 runs, at an average of 105 with 17 hundreds in 5 seasons. He’s England’s highest-ranking batter, with 966 (excluding this year’s World Cup tally).
His international play culminated in 2024 as a key England player in the Over 50’s World Cup, when England were crowned champions in South Africa.

Play in this year’s World Cup commenced on the 7th of February between the hosts Sri Lanka and England, the defending champions, England went on to win with Giles scoring a very impressive 125. After three weeks of hard-fought play, England faced Australia for third place. England won the day, beating Australia by 8 wickets,
